Frequently Asked Questions

How does the dumpster service work?

Q.Why haven't I heard of Neighborly Hauling before?
A.You may not have heard of Neighborly Hauling before because we're new! With experience renovating four homes and running multiple successful businesses, we understand the needs of homeowners and small business owners alike. Our commitment to reliable, professional hauling services comes from personal experience, ensuring that we provide the level of service we would expect for our own projects. We're excited to now offer our trusted services to ourcommunity!
Q.How does pricing work?
A.Our delivery and pickup service costs $200. This includes moving the bin from our yard, to your house, to the transfer station. This includes at least 2 days of rental time.

Our Pay For What You Use policy ensures you pay for what you throw away. These rates cover transfer station costs, maintenance for the equipment, and fuel; all 3 are impacted by the weight.

We do offer additional services such as ground protection, same-day delivery, weekend delivery, and garage placement.

Q.What forms of payment do you accept?
A.We accept multiple forms of payment to make the process as convenient as possible for our customers. You can pay using Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and ACH transfers, all processed securely through our online portal.
Q.How do I avoid extra fees?
A.Treat our equipment with respect and care. Avoid placing prohibited materials in the bin. Don't overfill the bin. Don't mix materials. It really is that simple.
Q.What type of materials can I put in a NH dumpster?
A.You can use Neighborly Hauling dumpsters for a variety of non-hazardous materials, including household junk, construction debris, yard waste, and certain building materials like wood, drywall, and roofing. However, prohibited items include hazardous materials such as chemicals, paints, electronics, tires, and appliances with freon. For a full list of accepted and excluded materials, please check our guidelines or contact us directly.

NOTE: Certain materials such as yard waste and soil must be in their own container. You cannot mix these materials with general debris because they must go to a seperate facility.
Q.What items are prohibited?
A.This is a detailed list of prohibited materials for Neighborly Hauling's dumpsters:

Hazardous materials: including toxic, flammable, corrosive, or reactive items.
Asbestos: Requires special handling and cannot be disposed of in regular dumpsters.
Beverage containers: Must be recycled if a deposit was paid.
Bulk liquids: Must be solidified before disposal, such as antifreeze or oils.
Medical waste: Must comply with Michigan’s Public Health Code and is prohibited from regular waste streams.
Yard waste: Such as leaves, grass, or clippings, which are banned from Michigan landfills.
Appliances: Includes items containing Freon or other special-handled materials.
Paints (wet): Wet paint is prohibited unless properly dried.

If these items are found in your container, additional fees will apply for removal, handling, and disposal in accordance with Kent County regulations. For a complete list or specific questions, feel free to contact us.
Q.What items cost extra?
A.Neighborly Hauling charges additional fees for specific materials. These extra fees are charged by Kent County.

  • 20 lbs+: $25 each.
Q.Why don't you include weight in the rental?
A.As a homeowner in Kent County, I frequently found that I needed volume vs. weight when doing my home projects. Instead, we developed the Pay For What You Use policy, we save your card on file and will update your final invoice with the weight ticket.
Q.What side dumpsters does NH carry?
A.At this time, we carry 8 Cubic Yard containers. The measurements are 114''L x 81"W x 52"H and fit nicely inside a standard 8 foot garage door.
Q.Will my dumpster have a door that swings open?
A.Yes, the rear door will swing open. If you wish to open the door, we highly recommend loading large items first, close the door, and then load smaller items over the rim.
Q.How long may I keep the roll off dumpster?
A.Our maximum rental term is 14 days. Most rentals are between 2 and 4 days.
Q.What if I need to keep my roll off dumpster longer or have it removed sooner?
A.Simply send a text to 616-350-0514, give us a call, or send an email to [email protected].
Q.Do the Dumpsters have a weight limit?
A.Yes, the safe limit of each 8 cubic yard dumpster bin is 4,000 lbs. If a bin is over this amount, we charge an overweight fee for the additional wear and tear on our equipment.

We absolutely cannot remove any bin over 5,000 lbs. These bins must be offloaded and incur an additional fee.

When in doubt, call us and we can try to bring an additional container with us.

NOTE: Orders must be placed before 3pm to ensure service.
Q.Is Weekend Delivery/Pickup available?
A.We can deliver a bin 7 days a week. Our weekend service is available for an extra charge.

NOTE: Pickup service is not available Saturday after 10am or Sunday all day as the transfer stations are closed.
Q.Do I need a permit to place a dumpster on my property?
A.Different towns, townships, and cities in West Michigan have different requirements. NH will happily take care of permits if required at your home or business.
Q.Can I place a dumpster on the street?
A.Different towns, townships, and cities in West Michigan have different requirements, but generally, NH is prohibited from placing a dumpster on the street or other public right of way (sidewalks).
Q.What if my dumpster is full and I need another?
A.Simply send a text to 616-350-0514, give us a call, or send an email to [email protected].

This is called a swap out and our policy is to keep any add-ons in place during a swap out. This means you get another dumpster rental without paying twice for any premium service you ordered.
Q.Do I need to be present when the dumpster is delivered? Picked Up?
A.No. If you have a specific location to place the bin, please let us know when ordering. If you want garage placement, it is best if you are home, however, if you have a gate code, we can use that to place the bin.

NOTE: if a bin is place in your garage, we'll need access to your garage to pickup the bin. It is best if you are present for this part.
Q.What if I need to reschedule or cancel?

We are not bonded but hold the appropriate commercial insurance for our operation. In the unlikely event of an accident or destruction of property, we will work with our insurance provider to ensure the issue is addressed.
Q.What happens if the dumpster is damaged in my possession?
A.If a Neighborly Hauling dumpster is damaged while in your possession, you are responsible for covering the cost of repairs or replacement.
